Birds on Frozen Grass

TOP TEN GARDEN JOBS FOR THIS MONTH

Keep putting out water and food for birds and other wildlife in your garden

Ensure your plant protection is still holding up. Windy weather may cause fleece to tear or canes to snap.

Remove withering hellebore leaves to encourage more blooms through to the Spring

Prune apple and pear trees while they are dormant in the Winter, in particular if you are trying to shape them

Shred your Christmas tree and add it to the compost bin. If you can’t do this, recycle it by offering it to a local farmer

Keep watering houseplants. The central heating will dry them out quicker

Water plants in containers which you have moved undercover for the cold months

Ensure pots are raised off the ground to prevent water logging

Avoid walking on frosty or snow covered lawns so that you don’t damage the grass

Deadhead Winter pansies and primroses to prolong flowering and keep your garden colourful until the Summer Bedding season
